Simon Bullers took to the stage at the London Virtualisation Forum to talk about VDI best practises. Following Simon’s presentation he represented RedPixie on the panel of experts and hosted several questions from the audience.

There was special interest around cost models and storage tuning. It’s apparent that across the industry there are many IT managers scratching their heads over how they demonstrate the business case for a VDI platform. RedPixie feel that this dilemma is generally born out of drawing a direct comparison between a VDI desktop and a physical desktop cost. In many cases it’s just not a valid comparison. We all need to look at the true cost owning a large distributed desktop environment. This cost generally includes, for many businesses, additional data centres, multiple instances of applications around the world, the high cost of many desktop moves and changes year in year out, the cost of end point security controls and on and on and on......watch this space as the debate continues across the industry. It is also appreciated by many that tuning the storage platform is key to the success of any VDI deployment. This is a lesson RedPixie have learned over time and clearly many others have too...or will do soon enough.
